Everyone knows the British like their snogging. But according to a new study, they’re not just sleeping with ordinary citizens. In fact, they’re just “three degrees of separation” from having sex with a celebrity.

You know what the “Six Degrees of Separation” idea is, right? Apparently, if every person you know is one step away from you, and every person they know is two steps away from you, then at six steps you can reach any person in the world. Well, for this story just switch “people you know” with “people you’ve slept with.”
Researchers at Cambridge University found that every person in the U.K. is linked to a famous person through just three degrees of separation. So if you’re British, that means a girl your boyfriend slept with (before you of course) has probably slept with a celebrity as well.
“We might be in awe of celebrities, but we should never forget that it’s a really small world when it comes to sex, and many people are more intimately linked than you might think,” said Georgia Arnold, a spokesman for MTV, which has a show coming out based on the data.
The study itself found that one in five people said they would sleep with a celebrity, while one in twenty said they already had.
“On average we have seven sexual partners each,” said Salvatore Scellato, a computer scientist who analyzed the findings. “If everyone has had sex with seven people and they’ve had sex with seven people and so on, the average individual potentially has had up to 343 indirect sexual partners in just three steps.”
We’re not sure if this idea will turn you on or just simply disgust you the next time you’re doing it, but at least you can fantasize about who your celebrity was.
