Mackenzie Phillips said that she had an affair with her own father spanning 10 years. Understandably, some people are challenging her claims, saying that her record of drug abuse makes her difficult to believe. It sounds like the whispers have turned into a roar.
Mackenzie Phillips said that she prepared her son in advance for the backlash against her story, saying:
“I sat down with him about a month ago, and I said you need to prepare. As a family we need to prepare for some of the hard truths that are going to come out of this book. I sat down and took him through it and he looked at me and put his head on my shoulder and said, ‘Poor mama. You better tell dad!’ He’s an amazing kid and nothing but supportive of me.”
Despite the support from her child, Mackenzie’s stepmoms were hardly as understanding.
