Though it has been announced that the shooting of “Spider-Man 4″ will be started in March 2010, nothing has been known about the villain in the upcoming action film. In a recent interview with MTV Splash Page, the film’s helmer, Sam Raimi, has talked about his consideration for choosing the next nemesis of Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker, saying “What we’re trying to do right now is really understand the journey Peter is going to go on this time and have the villain maybe be a counter to that growth, something that he has to overcome.”
Furthermore, Sam claimed, “Or maybe he has to grow in a way to overcome the villain.” He then went on explaining, “Because there always seem to be stories of coming of age, of a young man growing up and learning things about life, so once we are identifying the exact movement that Peter has to grow to, I think the villain-and we’re trying this right now; we’re trying to choose a villain based on who would be the proper counter to that growth, so we really have dramatic conflict.”

However, Sam remained mum when he was asked to mention the identity of the next Spider-Man’s nemesis. “I’m not allowed to say at this point,” he told MTV Splash Page. As for The Lizard, the character which received the highest vote from readers in MTV’s poll about “How Should Be The ‘Spider-Man 4′ Villain”, the director admitted, “I love the Lizard. There’s a great story there in the Marvel comic books about Dr. Connors.”
Previously, Sam Raimi has informed that he has been in the pre-production of “Spider-Man 4″ while Gary Ross still has been working on the script. Beside Tobey Maguire, Columbia Pictures has taped Kirsten Dunst to reprise her role as Peter Parker’s love interest Mary Jane Watson. The fourth installment of the “Spider-Man” film franchise is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on May 6, 2011.
